Frequently Asked Questions
Commissions
How much does a custom commission cost?
Cat Cason bespoke commissions begin at $10,000. Each piece is priced based on the stone, metal, and complexity of design. There are no hidden fees — every detail is confirmed before work begins.
What does the commission process look like?
It begins with a conversation. We schedule a consultation to discuss your vision, stone preferences, timeline, and budget. Catherine then personally selects stone candidates for your approval, followed by detailed CAD renderings before production begins.
Most commissions take 8 to 12 weeks from deposit to delivery.
Do I need to know exactly what I want?
Not at all. Many clients come with a feeling, a reference image, or simply a sense of the story they want their piece to tell. Catherine will guide you through every decision.
Do I need to be based in San Francisco?
No. Most commissions are designed remotely. San Francisco-based clients are welcome to visit our appointment-only studio.
Can I use my own stone?
We are not currently able to accept client-supplied stones. Catherine personally sources every stone through a curated network of trusted partners.
Are commissions returnable?
Because every Cat Cason piece is created entirely for you, commissions are non-returnable and non-refundable. We take extraordinary care throughout the design and approval process to ensure you love your piece before it is made.
Stones
How are stones selected?
Catherine personally hand-selects every stone. As a GIA Diamonds Graduate, she evaluates each against rigorous standards of color, clarity, cut, and overall character.
Are your diamonds conflict-free?
Yes. Every diamond in a Cat Cason piece is conflict-free. We maintain close, personal relationships with all of our stone partners.
Do you work with lab-grown diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are available by request. Please mention this when you reach out.
Do you source recycled or post-consumer diamonds?
Yes. We have trusted supplier relationships to source post-consumer and recycled diamonds for clients where sustainability is a priority.
What types of stones do you work with?
Cat Cason specializes in diamonds and sapphires, but we work with a range of exceptional gemstones. If you have a specific stone in mind, we welcome the conversation.
Jewelry Care
Do you offer a warranty?
Cat Cason warranties all settings for one year from the date of receipt. Diamonds up to 3mm will be replaced at no cost, provided the piece does not show signs of undue wear. We strongly recommend insuring your piece through a private jewelry insurer.
Can you help with an appraisal for insurance?
Yes. We can facilitate a jewelry appraisal for $150, which typically takes about one week. Please let us know before your piece ships.
Do you offer engraving?
Yes. Engraving is done by hand at $15 per letter. Engraved pieces are final sale.
How should I care for my piece?
Remove your piece before swimming, exercising, or applying lotions and perfumes. Store it separately to avoid scratching. Have it professionally inspected periodically to ensure the setting remains secure.
Payment
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), PayPal, and wire transfer. To arrange a wire transfer, contact us at info@catcason.com.
How does payment work for commissions?
Commissions require a deposit to begin, with the balance due prior to shipping. For purchases over $10,000 we require a copy of your photo ID to confirm the order.
Shipping
How do you ship?
All Cat Cason pieces ship fully insured via FedEx or UPS Priority with signature required. You will receive a tracking number the moment your piece ships. We ship Monday through Thursday.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, via FedEx International Priority. Cat Cason is not responsible for customs duties or import taxes. International orders are not eligible for the Cat Cason warranty.
Can you accommodate a discreet delivery?
Yes. We can arrange shipment to a FedEx or UPS store for discreet pickup. Please contact us in advance — do not reroute the package on your own as this may void the shipping insurance.
